AFTER GERTRUDE STEIN I – Working underground (2008)
in collaboration with Market Theatre, Johannesburg
In our After Gertrude Stein film trilogy we collaborated with actors in Johannesburg, Berlin and Brussels and employed narratives and acting as a methodology to search for possibilities to articulate aspirations. Gertrude Stein’s script Dr. Faustus lights the lights functioned as a starting point and methodological reference. By assembling and merging narratives, developed in teamwork and by individual participants the After Gertrude Stein trilogy stages a multitude of voices. The different films produce local and individual singularities, which seen within the larger context of this project locates these sensibilities in a much broader framework of cultures and that of globalisation.
